DAY 1: ANCHORAGE
Arrive in Alaska’s largest city of Anchorage. Pick up your rental car at the airport. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.
DAY 2: ANCHORAGE
This morning, meet your Local Host, who will offer suggestions for your full free day in Anchorage. Explore the Anchorage Museum, shop for souvenirs in downtown, sample fresh seafood, or stroll along the Coastal Trail. You’ll enjoy views of the ocean and maybe even spot a bald eagle or moose.
DAY 3: ANCHORAGE – DENALI NATIONAL PARK
Head north to Denali National Park. You may want to visit the Iditarod Headquarters, where you can learn about this famous race, meet the dogs that make the Iditarod so unique, or enjoy a thrilling dogsled trip down the trail. Arrive in Denali National Park and enjoy a 2-night stay. Approximately 240 miles/386 km.
DAY 4: DENALI NATIONAL PARK
Today, a guided WILDERNESS TOUR takes you into 6-million-acre Denali National Park to explore the majestic wilderness and seek out grizzly bears, caribou, moose, and other wildlife. During your free time, there are many activities available, such as a scenic float trip down the Nanana River or a thrilling helicopter ride over the glaciers. Tonight, why not experience the Denali Dinner Theater, where you’ll enjoy hearty Alaskan fare and be transported back to the Gold Rush era with songs, stories, and dance?
DAY 5: DENALI NATIONAL PARK – SEWARD
This morning, head south to Seward. Travel along the Turnagain Arm, one of the world’s great drives and one of just 15 roads in the United States designated as an “All-American Road.” Admire the mountains rising out of the sea and keep a lookout for beluga whales, bald eagles, and Dall sheep. Approximately 364 miles/585 km.
DAY 6: SEWARD
Today is free to explore Seward and the surrounding area. We strongly suggest a cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park. Relax and take in the beauty as you watch for whales, bald eagles, seals, sea lions, otters, and dolphins. The boat will take you up to the face of a glacier for an once-in-a-lifetime experience.
DAY 7: SEWARD – HOMER
Continue south on the Kenai Peninsula, watching for wildlife and enjoying stunning views of Cook Inlet, framed by towering volcanoes in the distance. Spend the next two nights in Homer, known as the “Place where the Road Ends.” Approximately 168 miles/270 km.
DAY 8: HOMER
Enjoy a full day to explore the unspoiled beauty of this area. Take a walk on the Homer Spit, where you can visit art shops, enjoy a bite to eat, and take in the amazing picture-perfect scenery. You may also wish to venture out onto the waters of Kachemak Bay on a fishing charter, where you’ll have the chance to catch salmon, halibut, lingcod, and more.
DAY 9: HOMER – GIRDWOOD
Drive to Girdwood, where you will stay at the outstanding Alyeska Resort. You may choose to take the tram ride to the top of Mount Alyeska for spectacular views, visit the Roundhouse Museum, experience a breathtaking helicopter ride, or enjoy a relaxing swim in the hotel’s large saltwater pool. Approximately 189 miles/304 km.
DAY 10: GIRDWOOD – ANCHORAGE
Depart the Alyeska Resort and drive back to Anchorage, where you will return your rental car at the airport. Please note that travel time from Girdwood to Anchorage is approximately 1 hour. Return flights should be scheduled accordingly. Approximately 42 miles/68 km.
